The KEY to enjoying life is learning what you like to do in order to enhance your life. For me, most of my favourite activities occur in the Springtime; maybe you can find a new favourite activity too!
As I sit here writing this, the birds are outside singing a happy tune – Spring is definitely in the air! This idea made me reflect on outdoor activities and how many of us will be venturing outside now; shaking off the dust from being indoors during winter and finally enjoying the fresh air. It’s a great opportunity to go for a walk or maybe a run! Soon, the bikes will be on the pathways as well.
The towns in our area have many beautiful neighbourhoods (we are very lucky!) and these neighbourhoods are all interconnected by a series of pathways that link our towns. Did you know that we have over 20km of pathways in Strathmore alone?
And guess what else we have… AN APP! Smore Paths! It is very user friendly and gives you great details on 15 different pathways around town. Go to www.Smorepaths.ca or in the Apple App Store to find the app and definitely add it to your mobile devices for the upcoming seasons!
I am a runner and I’ve gotten to know our path system very well over the 22+ years that I’ve lived here. At first, I had to be a little creative to run “off the roadway”, but over time the path system has gotten better and better. Now while I’m tracking my progress or planning on meeting a fellow runner, I can name the paths that we plan to use! A little shout out to The Strathmore Assembly of Youth for their hard work making this app a reality.
There are many reasons to enjoy the great outdoors here; another one is Disc Golf!
Strathmore has a Disc Golf Course that weaves its way around various beautiful parks and playgrounds. You may be asking, “What is Disc Golf?”. Well, it’s a game where you throw a disc (like a frisbee!) and try to land it into a net in as few throws as possible (like golf!). It’s a lot of fun and you can get some great exercise and enjoy the spring weather at the same time! The Disc Gold maps are available at the town office or online at strathmorediscgolf.com!
Did you know there’s a Disc Golf Association too? Anyone new in town, or if you’ve been here for a while, this is a great way to get out, enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise and meet people. My plan is to take advantage of this game whenever my family comes to town. I am going to organize a Disc Golf Tournament with prizes…such fun!
What I love best about the pathways and DiscGolf is that they are all literally right outside of our front doors! Our communities in Strathmore are excellent for families trying to create ways to enjoy outdoor fun! Go explore!
I am determined to learn as much about our neighbourhoods and communities as I can, and share it. When I list a home in your neighbourhood, I like to be able to share the added value that each area has, like parks and playgrounds, churches and more.
